Minor To Moderate Flood Warning For The Hawkesbury And Nepean Rivers

MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT MENANGLE FROM LATE WEDNESDAY MORNING
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT CAMDEN, PENRITH AND NORTH RICHMOND FROM WEDNESDAY EVENING
A vigorous low pressure system is deepening off the NSW coast and has resulted in moderate to heavy rainfall over the Hawkesbury Nepean River catchment during Tuesday into Wednesday. Further moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast during Wednesday. This rainfall caused river level rises and is likely to bring minor to moderate flooding along the Nepean River from late Wednesday morning.
Minor flooding is possible at Menangle and Camden, Penrith and North Richmond from Wednesday evening. Further rainfall is forecast for the next 24 hours which may lead to additional areas of minor flooding and rises to the moderate flood level along parts of the lower Nepean and Hawkesbury Rivers.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

Upper Nepean River:
Minor to moderate flooding may occur along the Upper Nepean River at Menangle and Camden Bridge.
The Nepean River at Menangle Bridge is currently at 4.89 m and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Nepean River at Menangle Bridge may exceed the minor flood level (5.20 m) Wednesday morning. The river may reach around the moderate flood level (9.20 m) Wednesday afternoon.

The Nepean River at Camden Weir is currently at 2.98 m and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Nepean River at Camden Weir may reach around the minor flood level (6.80 m) Wednesday evening.

Hawkesbury and Lower Nepean River:
Minor flooding may occur along the Hawkesbury and Lower Nepean River.
The Nepean River at Penrith is currently at 1.26 m and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Nepean River at Penrith may reach around the minor flood level (3.90 m) from Wednesday evening.

The Hawkesbury River at North Richmond WPS is currently at 0.57 m and falling, below the minor flood level.
The Hawkesbury River at North Richmond WPS may reach around the minor flood level (3.80 m) early Thursday morning.

Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.

for parts of Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory, Northern Tablelands and South West Slopes Forecast Districts.

Damaging winds with a vigorous coastal low persisting about eastern NSW and southern ACT.

Weather Situation
A mature low-pressure system is currently located offshore of the southern Mid North Coast, and is forecast to gradually track northeastwards into the Tasman Sea throughout today. However, a secondary lobe of the complex low will approach southern coasts into the evening, leading to a renewed burst of damaging winds about coastal localities. Winds are expected to ease as the entire low system tracks further east into the Tasman during Thursday morning.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Tablelands
DAMAGING SOUTH TO SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are possible today along parts of the coastal fringe from the South Coast through to the Mid North Coast, including Wollongong, eastern Sydney Metropolitan and Newcastle. Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds during Thursday morning.
DAMAGING SOUTH TO SOUTHWESTERLY WIND GUSTS around 90 km/h are possible for parts of the Snowy Mountains and southern ACT this morning, easing below warning thresholds during the afternoon.
Strong to DAMAGING WEST TO SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely about parts of the Northern Tablelands, the Mid North Coast hinterland and about the Border Ranges, and are expected to continue through to Thursday morning.

Locations which may be affected include eastern Sydney Metropolitan, Newcastle, Wollongong, Tenterfield, Mt Ginini and Moruya Heads.

* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

Warning to Sheep Graziers for the following areas:
Mid North Coast, Hunter, Northern Tablelands, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes & Plains, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers and southwesterly winds are expected during Wednesday and Thursday. Areas likely to be affected include the Illawarra, South Coast and Snowy Mountains forecast districts and parts of the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Northern Tablelands, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes & Plains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

Initial Minor Flood Warning For The Shoalhaven River

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT NOWRA AND TERARA FROM LATE WEDNESDAY MORNING
Moderate to heavy rainfall from Tuesday afternoon has caused significant river level rises across the Shoalhaven River and its tributaries. Minor flooding may develop at Nowra and Terara from late Wednesday morning.
Further rainfall is forecast across the catchment for the next few days, which may cause further river level rises. This situation is being closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as necessary.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for damaging winds and heavy rainfall covering Illawarra and South Coast.

Shoalhaven River:
Minor flooding is possible along the Shoalhaven River.

The Shoalhaven River at Nowra is currently at 1.78 m AHD and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Shoalhaven River at Nowra may reach around the minor flood level (2.30 m AHD) around midday Wednesday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

The Shoalhaven River at Terara is currently at 1.66 m AHD and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Shoalhaven River at Terara may reach around the minor flood level (2.20 m AHD) early Wednesday afternoon. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
