Initial Minor Flood Warning For The Myall River

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT BULAHDELAH SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Rainfall during Sunday morning has caused river level rises along the Myall River with minor flooding possible at Bulahdelah from Sunday afternoon. Further rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Sunday which may cause further river level rises.
The situation is being closely monitored and this flood warning will be updated as required.

Myall River:
Minor flooding may occur along the Myall River.

The Myall River at Bulahdelah is currently at 2.33 metres and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Myall River at Bulahdelah may exceed the minor flood level (3.00 m) Sunday afternoon. The river level may reach around 3.50 metres overnight Sunday into Monday, with minor flooding.

Flood Safety Advice:
In life threatening emergencies, call 000 (triple zero) immediately. If you require rescue, assistance to evacuate or other emergency help, ring NSW SES on 132 500.
* Avoid drowning. Stay out of rising water, seek refuge in the highest available place.
* Prevent damage to your vehicle. Move it under cover, away from areas likely to flood.
* Avoid being swept away. Stay out of fast-flowing creeks and storm drains.
* Never drive, ride or walk through flood water. Flood water can be deceptive and dangerous.}

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE FOR PARTS OF THE HUNTER, MID NORTH COAST AND CENTRAL COAST CATCHMENTS FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON

A complex low pressure system has deepened over the Hunter Coast and may move onshore this afternoon before moving away overnight and during Monday.
Catchments in the Flood Watch area are relatively wet.
Moderate rainfall is forecast across the Flood Watch area for the remainder of Sunday, with locally heavy rainfall possible. Rainfall is forecast to ease late Sunday into Monday.
There is some degree of uncertainty over the exact location and timing of the heaviest falls. Localised river level rises, and flash flooding are likely within the areas of heaviest rainfall.
This weather system has the potential to cause minor flooding in the Flood Watch area from Sunday afternoon. Flood Classes (minor, moderate, major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.

Myall River
Goulburn and Upper Hunter Rivers
Wollombi Brook and Lower Hunter River
Paterson and Williams Rivers
Central Coast
Orara River
Bellinger and Kalang Rivers
Nambucca River
Macleay River
Hastings River

Flood warnings are current for the following catchments: Orara, Bellinger, Nambucca, Hastings, Camden Haven, Cooks, Culgoa, Paroo, Warrego, Barwon and Darling. Flooding is no longer expected in the Macleay River.

Mid North Coast, Hunter and Central Tablelands forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers and southwesterly winds are expected during Sunday. Areas likely to be affected include the Hunter forecast district and parts of the Mid North Coast and Central Tablelands forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy Rainfall And Damaging Winds

for parts of Mid North Coast and Hunter Forecast Districts.

Areas of heavy rain about the southern Mid North Coast and parts of the Hunter today. Damaging winds possible about parts of the coastal fringe.

Weather Situation
A complex low pressure system near the Hunter coast today is enhancing a moist and unstable onshore flow, supporting bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Winds will also strengthen about the coast as the low deepens. The low is expected to begin moving slowly eastwards taking it further offshore from this evening.
HEAVY RAINFALL and DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Mid North Coast and Hunter
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is expected about the southern Mid North Coast and parts of the Hunter this morning and afternoon. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 50 and 100 mm are likely, with isolated falls of 140 mm possible. These conditions are expected to ease during the afternoon and evening.
South to southeasterly winds with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS and peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible about the coastal fringe north of about Norah Head today, easing during the evening.
Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Gosford, Cessnock and Maitland.
117 mm was recorded at Collombatti in the 6 hours to 2:10 am.
75 mm was recorded at Majors Creek (Moparrabah) in the 3 hours to 1:10 am.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
