Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy, Locally Intense Rainfall
for parts of North East Pastoral and North West Pastoral districts.
Issued at 4:52 am Monday, 9 February 2026.
HEAVY TO LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL ABOUT NORTHERN PARTS OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Weather Situation
A humid tropical airmass lingers over northern parts of South Australia. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread from this morning as an upper trough approaches the area. Rainfall may become intense from around sunrise today.
HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is expected to continue to develop through parts of the North East and North West Pastoral districts from this morning. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 30 and 50 mm are likely, with localised totals up to 80 mm possible with thunderstorm activity.
Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is also possible in a sub-area about northern parts of the North East Pastoral from around sunrise on Monday morning. This includes areas around Moomba. These conditions would likely be caused by slow moving, heavy thunderstorms. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 90 and 110 mm are possible.
Conditions should ease in western parts of the warning area by this afternoon, before easing more broadly by tonight.
Flood warnings are current for the far northeast of the state. Please refer to https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts
Flash flooding may make roads impassable through northeastern parts of the state.
Locations which may be affected include Moomba, Oodnadatta, Innamincka, Dalhousie Springs, the Simpson Desert Conservation Park and Mungeranie on the Birdsville Track.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water;
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am ACDT Monday.
