Initial Flood Warning For The Coal River

ELEVATED RIVER LEVELS EXPECTED ALONG THE COAL RIVER
River level rises and areas of flooding are expected along the Coal River following rainfall during Saturday. Further rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Saturday and into Sunday.

Coal River:
River level rises have been observed along the Coal River at White Kangaroo Rivulet. River levels may remain elevated into Sunday.

Flood Safety Advice:
Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.

Road weather alert for reduced visibility in heavy rain for the following areas:
South East forecast district
Reduced visibility in heavy rain and possible water over roads will make road conditions dangerous during Saturday in parts of the South East forecast district.
Cancellation for the following areas:
East Coast,North East

Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for parts of South East Forecast District.

Issued at 4:50 pm Saturday, 26 July 2025.

Damaging east to northeasterly winds expected in the far southeast this evening.

Weather Situation
A deep low pressure system is extending a cold front over the southeast of the state, with strengthening east to northeasterly winds ahead of it. The front will clear the southeast coast this evening, with winds easing in its wake.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
South East
DAMAGING EAST TO NORTHEASTERLY WINDS averaging 50 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are likely today about parts of the southeast coast.
Winds are expected to ease during the evening.
There are also currently active flood warnings for the area, for more information please check http://www.bom.gov.au/tas/warnings/
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the East Coast district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.
109 km/h wind gust was recorded at Tasman Island Airport at 3:57 pm.
94 km/h wind gust was recorded at Cape Bruny at 2:12 pm.
93 km/h wind gust was recorded at Maria Island at 12:33 pm.
91km/h wind gust and sustained 63 km/h winds were recorded at Larapuna at approximately 8:00 am.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Saturday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
