Coastal Hazard Warning
for ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES
for parts of South East, Upper Derwent Valley and East Coast Forecast Districts.
Issued at 4:19 pm Wednesday, 25 June 2025.
Abnormally High Tides for South Eastern Tasmania.
Weather Situation
A deep low pressure system in the Tasman Sea is generating strong to gale-force southwesterly winds, leading to elevated sea levels this evening.
ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for the following areas:
Upper Derwent Valley, South East and East Coast
ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES may lead to sea water flooding of low-lying coastal areas between Southport and the Tasman Peninsula, including locations along the Derwent River. Tides are likely to rise WELL ABOVE the normal high tide mark during this evening's high tide for these locations. Tides are expected to return to normal levels early tomorrow morning.
Locations which may be affected include New Norfolk, Hobart, Dover, Dodges Ferry, and Southport.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
