Warning to Sheep Graziers

for North Central, North East, South West, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts

Warning to Sheep Graziers for the following areas:
North Central, North East, South West, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, rain and showers and northwesterly winds are expected during Wednesday and Thursday. Areas likely to be affected include the West and South Gippsland forecast district and parts of the North Central, North East, South West, Central and East Gippsland forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

The next warning will be issued by 11:00 am EST Wednesday.

Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for parts of East Gippsland, North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and Central Forecast Districts.

Issued at 4:54 am Wednesday, 27 August 2025.

Damaging winds redeveloping over the eastern ranges Wednesday.

Weather Situation
Damaging winds have temporarily eased early this morning as a cold front contracts away to the east. A new cold front approaches from the west today with damaging winds again expected to develop over the eastern ranges later this morning.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Central, East Gippsland, North Central, North East and West and South Gippsland
For EASTERN RANGES:
DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts to around 110 km/h are likely to develop during the mid-morning today as a cold front approaches, before easing below warning thresholds by late afternoon or evening.
Locations which may be affected include Falls Creek, Dargo, Mt Baw Baw, Mt Hotham, Mt Buller and Omeo.
Significant wind observations from 9am Tuesday:
128 km/h gust at Mt Hotham at 12:12 am Wednesday.
122 km/h gust at Mt Buller at 12:10 am Wednesday.
107 km/h gust at Falls Creek at 0349am Wednesday.
100 km/h gust at St Kilda Harbour at 12:05 pm Tuesday.
98 km/h gust at Melbourne Airport at 12:43 pm Tuesday.
91 km/h gust at Essendon Airport at 1:13pm Tuesday.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.
* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Stay indoors and away from windows.
* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
* Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AEST Wednesday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
